Dr. Kevin Pyle
Forty-five years of clinical and organisational psychology across three jurisdictions — and the practitioner behind every program on this site.
Training and qualifications
Dr. Pyle received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology in Melbourne, his Master of Science in Counselling at California State University Sacramento, and his PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California.
Over his career he has held licences to practise psychology in the State of California, the State of Hawaii, and Australia. In 2003 he was admitted to the United Who’s Who of America in the Field of Psychology. He is a member of the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society and a Medicare provider as a Clinical Psychologist, and has been in private practice in Australia since 2008.
Clinical career
Across 45 years of practice Dr. Pyle has served as Clinical Director of Paediatric Services at a California-based psychiatric hospital, overseen the out-of-home placement of children and youth for the State of Hawaii, and integrated mental health services into the school system on Kauai, Hawaii.
He has also worked extensively with first responders dealing with the emotional rigours of their careers. That work led directly to the development of the Resilience as Tactical Armour program, refined and finalised over a nine-year process.
Working with Dr. Amen and Dr. Arden
During his time in California, Dr. Pyle worked with Dr. Daniel Amen, a leading author and researcher in the field of ADHD using neurofeedback and biofeedback computerised technology. It was during this period that he came to understand the complementary nature of biofeedback and CBT training in the treatment of anxiety.
He also worked closely with Dr. John Arden, a world-recognised researcher and author in the field that synthesises the biological and psychological into a new vision for psychotherapy integration. Dr. Pyle integrates the work of both men in his approach to anxiety — and Dr. Arden has since endorsed the Stress Inoculation program.
The programs
In tandem with RTA, Dr. Pyle developed the Stress Inoculation program, which fills the void that exists in providing senior management with quality, evidence-based tools to address anxiety that affects performance. Four further programs — Dialled In, Glidepath, Risk Reflex and Orient — apply the same method to recovery facilities, commercial aviation, financial services and senior Defence leadership.
These training models are unique in the field of resilience training in that they focus on advances in technology (biofeedback) and neuroscience, rather than on awareness education alone.
